Provision
of basic amenities of life including
clean drinking water and sanitation
facilities to the people of
Lahore has been on the priority
agenda of the City District
Government, ever since its inception
in August 2001. Besides installation
of 75 tube-wells in our first
four years' term, we have also
to our credit completion of
unprecedented number of drainage
and sewerage schemes in the
city. For overcoming havoc to
the city life, caused as a result
of ponding of water in the wake
of torrential rainfall during
rainy season, the City District
Government needed rehabilitation
and revamping of its sewerage
& drainage system.
It is matter of immense satisfaction
for me that the government and
people of Japan have joined
hands with us by our efforts
for uplifting the civic facilities
in Lahore by extending grant
for the retrieval of its sewerage
and drainage system. With arrival
of sewerage and drainage cleaning
machinery, WASA will be able
to retrieve the original capacity
of its silted up sewers and
drainage open channels. The
Staff of WASA will also be trained
in mechanized and systematic
cleaning of sewerage and drainage
systems by working in association
with Japanese consultants.
I appreciate the efforts of
JICA, Japanese consultants and
WASA counterpart staff for successful
realization of this project.
I express my best wishes for
successful completion of this
project and undertaking of more
such projects in association
with Govt. of Japan for improvement
of facilities in the City.
